Some mattress manufactures know the hype is on about chemicals and call it a priority blend. It’s not always apparent what chemicals your getting yourself into why buying mainstream bedding.  Anyone can open a new mattress and smell the horrid chemicals which speaks for itself. Mattresses don’t just off gas in a few weeks, or even a month, they off gas for years. Mattress toppers aren’t any better when it comes to chemicals. Most bedding contains petroleum based chemicals and mattresses can contain BPA and even formaldehyde and 60 other chemicals. Latex though natural in its raw state has strong chemical odor when you open the package.  Be aware of marketing gimmicks that tease you with the name “natural” be sure it is truly a natural fiber.  Bedding such as sheets and comforters can off gas much sooner, but who knows at what point the chemicals are completely gone and no longer inhaled at night while sleeping. All of which has been linked to serious health issues. Sleeping on Natural bedding you’ll notice right away, how good it feels.

Natural isn’t the same as Organic. Go to the EPA’s website and research before you buy. Though not everyone can buy Organic cotton, there are products that are comparable and safe that provide a healthy environment for sleep that are natural fiber. Bamboo grown organically does have some small amount of chemical used, however that same chemical can also be used in organic cotton production and that chemical is completely washed out before processing begins, therefore you have a chemical free product once finished. Always check on the manufacture’s ethical standards before buying any product in question.

Buying Organic bedding or Natural bedding can be costly but, by far it the benefits exceed the price. Our health shouldn’t be compromised. www.mypumpkindoodle.com

As a mother that tries to live a healthy, green lifestyle, I’m always looking for the eco friendly gifts. Natural mother’s choose eco friendly gifts because they are better for the planet, their children or the children they are buying for. It isn’t easy in today’s world of toxic chemicals in children’s products to find non-toxic and eco friendly gifts. Gifts that you can feel good about using or giving to someone you care about. Mainstream packaging and advertising, make it tough for the children all caught up in the bright colors and dazzling packaging. They really want the most colorful products. Meanwhile your standing at the checkout counter having to read the labels and saying No to a products the kids really want. I try to limit the exposure my children have to the mainstream big box stores and buy products that I know they will love and enjoy without the toxins.
