Big Kids, Healthy Mattresses

Big Kids, Healthy Mattresses. So much hype about healthy baby crib mattresses, and yes that is super important.  Big Kids need healthy mattresses too!  Both  my daughters were climbing out of the their crib at age 12 mos.  We moved to toddler bed and then to a twin mattresses with a guard at age 3.  Big kids, Healthy mattresses are important also as your child gets older, even into the teens. Whatever the age of your child, sleeping on a mattress without off gassing toxic chemicals is important.  Kids still are developing and their brain and lungs are effected by the chemicals in mainstream mattresses, and bedding.  Organic mattresses, Green Mattresses, that use natural fire retardants are so  much more healthier than mattresses that have harsh chemical contents and toxic fire retardants  ( Environmental Working Group).  It can take years for these chemicals, fire retardants to off gas. Imagine years of a child breathing in chemicals.  Fire retardants have been linked to serious diseases.

In the scheme of marketing and advertisements many of us forget big kids need a healthy mattresses.  Toxic mattresses have  been linked to allergies, asthma among other illnesses.  Healthy mattresses and healthy non toxic bedding help keep your big kid sleeping healthy and sleeping well and feeling their best.

Big Kids perform better with healthy amount of sleep, sometimes sleeping as much as 11 hours a day, while growing.  Sleep is important to their immune system, brain function, body growth and mood.  Since our face is so close to the  bedding and mattress, the mattress contents are so important.  Whatever the mattress is made of, is what will be inhaled while sleeping.

As parents we want the best for our children all through their lives and so many times, mattresses are overlooked once they get past the crib size mattresses.  Give your big kid’s body a healthy development by buying a organic mattress.  Organic mattresses, that have been specifically designed to meet the needs of your amazing kid. Buying an Organic Mattress

Buying an Organic Mattress

There are a few things to keep in mind when deciding to buy an Organic mattress.  If you have medical conditions, it would be good to speak to a medical Dr. or a Chiropractor about what might be good for your back.

Do research before you buy. Not all Natural mattresses or Organic mattress are created equal.  You need to know what you are buying the contents of the mattress and chemicals, if any, that could cause issue with allergies, asthma etc.

One of the biggest complaints I hear from people is that they just purchased an expensive mainstream mattress and now they can’t sleep on it due to the odor from off gassing. They then have an expensive mattress they cannot use.

Check out the complaints and the reviews to make sure what you are buying is highly rated.

Ask about return policies to make sure that if your unhappy with your mattress, you can return it.  Our mattresses come with a guarantee.

Check the warranty on the mattress, good quality mattresses have a good warranty.

Remember that firm mattresses aren’t always best, depends on your body type, weight and your health condition, same with pillow top mattresses.  Marketing campaigns will convince you that you need a top of the line pillow top mattress, not necessarily true.  Studies suggest that light weight people don’t need a pillow top mattress. Their weight doesn’t weigh them down enough to get to the underlying support, heavier adults might need more cushion under their body. I’ve heard many complaints of people buying the memory foam mattresses thinking they would be soft, only to find out they are too firm, and uncomfortable.

Not all Organic mattresses are created equal.  Check out the mattress contents, reviews and ratings before buying an Organic mattress. You investment will be worthwhile.

Spring into Natural bedding. When Spring arrives everyone thinks of cleaning and making everything fresh and new. Natural bedding is the perfect idea for your Spring purchases. Pure bedding, natural bedding gives your body a rest, chemicals taxes your body’s immune system.  Literally you sleep better, breathe better and feel healthier sleeping on Natural bedding.

Some mattress manufactures know the hype is on about chemicals and call it a priority blend. It’s not always apparent what chemicals your getting yourself into why buying mainstream bedding.  Anyone can open a new mattress and smell the horrid chemicals which speaks for itself. Mattresses don’t just off gas in a few weeks, or even a month, they off gas for years. Mattress toppers aren’t any better when it comes to chemicals. Most bedding contains petroleum based chemicals and mattresses can contain BPA and even formaldehyde and 60 other chemicals. Latex though natural in its raw state has strong chemical odor when you open the package.  Be aware of marketing gimmicks that tease you with the name “natural” be sure it is truly a natural fiber.  Bedding such as sheets and comforters can off gas much sooner, but who knows at what point the chemicals are completely gone and no longer inhaled at night while sleeping. All of which has been linked to serious health issues. Sleeping on Natural bedding you’ll notice right away, how good it feels.

Natural isn’t the same as Organic. Go to the EPA’s website and research before you buy. Though not everyone can buy Organic cotton, there are products that are comparable and safe that provide a healthy environment for sleep that are natural fiber. Bamboo grown organically does have some small amount of chemical used, however that same chemical can also be used in organic cotton production and that chemical is completely washed out before processing begins, therefore you have a chemical free product once finished. Always check on the manufacture’s ethical standards before buying any product in question.

Buying Organic bedding or Natural bedding can be costly but, by far it the benefits exceed the price. Our health shouldn’t be compromised. www.mypumpkindoodle.com

Natural Homes use Green Products

Why Natural Homes use Green products? What’s all the hype about greening your home? So many times people think that having a natural home means eating Organic foods, using filtered water, using a re-usable shopping bags and recycling.  That is only part of the process. Many well intended consumers  fall into the greenwashing trap and think that because a company uses gimmicky labels they are Green products. That’s usually not the case. Educate yourself on product ingredients so you will know a toxic product using greenwashing, and you can make educated decisions about the products you bring into your home for your family.  Natural homes encompass so much more than eating healthy, re-using and recycling. Natural homes use true green products such as organic mattresses, natural bedding, non-toxic drinking bottles and avoid using products with toxic chemicals in their bath and body products, kitchen products or pet beds that can contaminate the home. The air we breathe in our home can be the most toxic air we breathe.  Our home contains many toxins we are not aware of such as, flooring, carpet, drapes, furniture and paint.  Unless you build a new all certified Green home, you have toxins in your home that can’t be avoided.  These products off gas continually and are trapped inside your home.  Even with air filters, it might not completely clean the air of these toxins. Green parents know that indoor air quality is important. That’s why they try and minimize the toxins in their home by using Green products that will create a healthier more natural home for their family.  Natural mothers shop for the most economical and natural, non-toxic or organic home products so they can create more of a natural home affordably. Why Are Organic Mattresses Important

When thinking about going green and living a healthier lifestyle it can get overwhelming the amount of information and choices.  There is so much to choose from and where do you begin? The first thing to take into consideration is your budget.  Make a list of the most important areas of your home and life that need change.  As a parent our children’s health is most important. From the moment we hold them, they become the most important part of our lives. As a parent we want to be educated on the choices that are most important to their well-being. Infants are very susceptible to their environment. Children spend as much as 14 hours a day sleeping.  Because of the toxicity of mattresses whether you co-sleep, have a bassinet or crib you need a good, healthy, non-toxic sleeping environment for your newborn as their immune systems, lungs and brain are still developing. Organic mattresses are the most healthiest you can provide for your child.  Not only Organic Mattress but one that is fire retardant, safe and non-toxic.  Some may argue that even Organic Mattresses have chemicals for fire retardant. Ours uses natural sources for fire retardant and we offer the healthiest green mattresses, without the use of chemicals.  So whether or not your shopping for a Organic Baby Crib Mattress, a Organic Queen Mattress, or a Organic Bassinet or cradle pad, we have what you need.  Remember that mattresses can be the most important purchase you make as a parent.  Chemicals from mattresses have be attributed to SIDS, Asthma and Allergies among other health issues.  Give your family the very best in Organic Mattresses.
